Cherries

While it's sweltering here in Tennessee there's nothing better to wear than one of Quincy's plays suits! Technically this is just the top paired with an American Apparel skirt, but still. Quincy made this top (and skirt that I'll have to show ya'll some other time) out of some material I gave her and I really love it, plus it's great for keeping cool.

I think in the summer time play suits are really necessary for living, and I would wear them everyday if I could. Maybe I could amass enough by next summer to do just that.

What are some of ya'lls favorite things to wear when summer hits?

Caitlin Shearer

I'm sure most of you have heard of the wonderful Caitlin Shearer, but for those of you who haven't, she's amazing. She's an illustrator and happens to sell a lot of her lovely things on etsy. I've been wanting to purchase one of her prints for a while and I finally did. This is the print I got:

I'm going to hang it near my art deco vanity. I completely adore it! I can't wait to get more of her wonderful art. Here are a few more of my favorite prints from her shop.

You can also purchase her work here I really want this one:

So if you haven't yet, go check this lovely lady out!

New Sun Glasses

The other day Ty and I popped into one of my favorite shops in Nashville, Pangea. I always love browsing their jewelry, perfumes, and sun glasses. I happened upon a pair of sunnies that looked very 30's/40's inspired and I snatched them up.

I'm sorry if you're all getting sick of seeing this jumper, but it's really one of my favorite things to wear.

Slowly Rising

As I slowly rise above my slump, there's several things that have helped me. One of them was getting my hair cut into more of a classic middy. It's not drastic, most of you probably won't notice a difference, but it's really helped with styling. Also, I'm going to be going back in a few weeks to have my hair dyed back close to my natural color. I've been planning to do it one day and with the state of my hair right now it could use a break from dying for a long while.

Another thing that's helped with my slump is going through pinterest and blogs. Mainly a few blogs like Johanna's Her styling really inspired me to be motivated again. As well as Miriam's  Miriam doesn't blog so much any more, but going through her older posts was very inspiring.

I've been experimenting with parting my hair down the middle lately. Trying to vibe the 30's and 40's. I quite like it, but the curls won't exactly do what I want (damaged hair people, it's hard to create a nice soft curl).

Gypsy Rose Lee

I really love vintage burlesque (the glamour and such) and what is more vintage burlesque than Gypsy Rose Lee? Here are some beautiful photos behind the scenes at a show in 1949.

Gypsy Rose Lee (born Ellen June Hovick in Seattle in 1911) was best known for being a burlesque star, although she also dabbled in writing and acting. Many in modern day burlesque (like Dita Von Tease) cite her as inspiration and as a pioneer of burlesque. I love these candid shots behind the scenes of the show. The girls lounging about, trying on costumes, they all look lovely.

Hope you enjoyed the photos!

Getting Back On Track

Thank you all so very much for your sweet and encouraging comments on my last post. It really meant so much to me and actually got me progressing more towards getting out of my slump.
I've made a hair appointment for this Monday and I'm hoping that will give me a new outlook on my appearance and make it less of a daunting task styling my hair. That is one big way I'm going to beat my slump I think. I also started really looking at inspirational photos and blogs I love that inspired me stylistically. Not that I didn't already but with the mind set of "what could I take away from this".

I went to the Porter Flea today with Quincy and had a lovely girls day, which I think helped imensely. It was followed by my hubby coming home from a trip for work, which was such a huge pick me up. Altogether, things are looking up for old Liz Lemon (ok, sorry 30 Rock reference). But really, things are looking up.

Feeling Meh

I have been feeling pretty uninspired and unmotivated as of late. Bear with my while I vent a bit.

My hair won't set right, maybe I just need to get it thinned or it's because I murdered it with bleach, but pin curls will not dry at all (I used to have much longer hair and it would dry over night) it takes almost two days for a set to dry now. If anybody can give me ideas it would be much appreciated!

I find it hard putting together outfits, partially because some of the things I love aren't fitting exactly right. I've gained about 10 pounds in the past several months and am currently working on loosing it, which can always be a bit of a downer. But, exercise and whatnot will improve things there.

Altogether, I'm just uninspired. That's a big reason I haven't been posting much, I don't have any creative ideas for my hair or wardrobe and am just feeling like I'm in a slump.

What do you all do when you feel like you're in a creative slump? I would love to know.

Pink

So, I once again filmed a hair tutorial and the card reader once again...deleted it. So this weekend we're gonna try again and hopefully next week I'll be able to share a video with you.
I've spent all weekend and most of this week house sitting for my parents and it's been really wonderful getting to spend time with my siblings. Getting to go on hikes, make huge dinners together, it's been a blast. I don't have a lot of photos to share but here's an outfit I wore a few days ago.

I've applied to a couple schools here in Nashville that have music positions open. I'm reeeally hoping I'll get one. If not, I'll be completely happy this fall teaching pre-school, but I would really be excited to be able to teach music this fall.  Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Black and Blonde

So after a bit of an absence, I'm back! Tyler is using this amazing camera (a Cannon 5D Mark II) and last week had recorded a make up tutorial, a hair tutorial, and got shots of an outfit for me. I was so excited to post everything, it all looked so great, and then...it all got deleted. That's right. All. Gone. It turned out the card reader and the memory card were corrupted and formed the perfect storm. So after that I was a little unmotivated to post, but the camera is back, and now I can show you guys some outfit photos!

The weather is all over the place here in Nashville. The last several days it has been well into the 90's and then today I think the high was 69. A little odd, but I'll actually take some cooler weather, it's nice.

This weekend Ty and I will be babysitting my siblings (though none of them need it) at my parents house while they are away on a trip for their 25 Anniversary! Congrats Mom and Dad!

What are your weekend plans?
