My Man Godfrey

As much as I completely adore old movies, I realized I hadn't posted about any of them. SO I thought I would remedy that.
First let me start off with a little bit about my history with old movies. I grew up with no cable so we didn't watch anything that came on tv. Both my parents were big old movie fans so pretty much any time spent in front of the tv we were watching an old movie. I have really early memories of watching Harvey, My Man Godfrey, The Rage of Paris and loads of others. I have grown in my love and appreciation for these movies, and they are what sparked my interest in vintage style.

One of my favorites is My Man Godfrey, which came out in 1936. I've always adored William Powell (like he may be one of my favorite actors ever) and who doesn't love Carol Lombard?

My Man Godfrey is the story about a wealthy man named Godfrey Park (William Powell) who has abandoned his riches to live in the city dump, a Hooverville esque place. While he's there he has a run in with a wealthy woman, Irene Bullock (Carol Lombard) and after he participates in a game she is playing she hires him as a butler and things will never be the same for poor Godfrey. If you haven't seen the movie, please do, you'll have a wonderful time watching it. It's now on Netflix for easy viewing! Edit: I just checked Netflix and it looks as if they've taken it down! Maybe they'll put it back up at some point. They do have it on Hulu Plus though.

Have you ever seen My Man Godfrey before? What are some of your favorite movies?

Oh, Hi There

Yep, I did it. I know my hair isn't looking wonderful in these but I just wanted to show you all the change. The whole reason I did this was because I need to start growing out my hair with it's natural color. My hair is so damaged it's ready for a break. This is a demi permanent color so it will fade out and eventually show my natural color (which is not this dark at all). For now I'll have to keep getting it tinted every once in a while until the bleached part grows out, but after that...hello natural hair!

Going Out

Last night Ty and I went on a double date to PM's. It was loads of fun and I'm pretty sure this is the third week in a row that we've gone to PM's for date night. So, if you're ever in the Nashville area, it's a great place to eat!

I've been loving the Nashville weather lately. It's been raining non-stop and the it's cooled down immensely. Which means I can wear stockings out! So nice.

Color

I'm having so much fun with my hair now that I've figured out how to pin curl it again while it's a bit damaged. I'm also looking forward to/a little sad that I will be dying my hair back close to it's natural color next week. I'll miss the blond a lot, but I know it's time to give my poor hair a break.

Green and Curls

I have some great news personal and style wise today. Last week I got an interview with two schools who need to split a music teacher. The interview went extremely well and I feel I did my best, so even if I'm not chosen for the job I really feel good about it.
In style news I finally got my poor damaged hair to pin curl! My hair has to be dry starting out, then I have to brush all the waviness (my hair won't even curl naturally any more with how dead it is) out and lightly mist it with water and setting lotion and it works! So glad I finally have that figured out now.

I just got this new jumper from Modcloth yesterday, so I had to wear it out on date night. Sorry it's wrinkled it was just out of the package. It's actually a Bettie Page jumper, and I like it quite a bit. Since it's mostly synthetic it works up a sweat in the summer heat, but I imagine in the fall it'll be a nice layering piece.

Summer Loves

Here's some things I've been loving/pining after this summer.

This bathing suit from What Katie Did. I've been lusting after it and I think in a bit I'll have enough saved up for it to be mine.

It's probably no secret to those of you who follow me on here that I'm in love with Quincy's line, especially her play suits. If I had loads of money I'd ask her to make me one in every color of gingham.

Lakes. This is a photo I took this past weekend when Ty and I went to Percy Priest Lake. It's been in the 100's here in Nashville and since we've discovered there's a small swimming beach along this lake I'm pretty sure we'll be there every weekend.

Sandals. Every summer I tell myself I will get a new pair of sandals and never do. I love these because they have a great vintage vibe. You can get them here.

And lastly, Jenni's ice cream. The Salty Caramel has become my favorite flavor and several times a week I beg Ty to take me to get some. So. Good.

What are some things you are loving/lusting over this summer?

Cherries

While it's sweltering here in Tennessee there's nothing better to wear than one of Quincy's plays suits! Technically this is just the top paired with an American Apparel skirt, but still. Quincy made this top (and skirt that I'll have to show ya'll some other time) out of some material I gave her and I really love it, plus it's great for keeping cool.

I think in the summer time play suits are really necessary for living, and I would wear them everyday if I could. Maybe I could amass enough by next summer to do just that.
