Life Lately

Life lately has its ups and downs per usual. Tyler has finished his big project at work (last night he was working until 3:00am) so we will finally have some time for relaxing. The weather here lately in Tennessee is completely beautiful. Fall is our favorite season and Ty is already breaking out his winter coats and I'm thinking of tights and sweaters. There will of course still be warm and probably very hot days ahead, but we can dream.

I'm a little frustrated at the moment with loosing weight. I was doing so well and exercising, then I fell off the band wagon for a few weeks. Ugh. It's the worst when you're on a roll with something and you stop and have to pick it back up again. It feels a bit like you'll never make it, but I'm determined to! Even if I fall behind a bit, I'll make myself catch back up. Do any of you struggle with falling off the band wagon a bit?

Here are some instagram pics that have been life for the past month. You can follow me at emmyrenee if you like.

Not nannying has given me lots of time to cook. This was an amazing pork chop and mushroom sauce I made one night. Yummy.

Whenever we go to the movies we head to the photo booth.

New books and new found time to read them!

My hair is finally feeling healthy again. It's shiny and will hold pin curls easily. Thank goodness!

Pretty outfit planning.

Antiquing is always fun. I love finding old sheet music.

I hope you all are doing well! I'm off to think about planning dinner and then to jog! Yes, that's right, here I come band wagon!

The Truth About My Skin

I've gotten several lovely compliments over the last month about my skin and questions wondering what I do to keep it in it's condition. I've put off for a long time talking about my skin regime because, well, I really don't have super good skin.

During high school I never had any acne problems, and perhaps it was my bodies way of getting back at me, but when I went to college my skin went crazy. I've struggled for the last four or so years with cystic acne, which are terrible cysts that hurt something awful. I don't usually get a normal break out just some of these cysts, and they can last for a month...gaaah. I go to a Dermatologist and get topical and oral medication to help with this, and therefore I feel like I kind of cheat myself into better skin to some degree.

However, I do have some things I swear by and some ways I keep my skin in tip top condition, even with it being problematic.

1. I only use CeraVe lotion and face wash. It's recommended by my dermatologist, and especially good for people with sensitive skin. The face wash comes in two kinds: one for normal to oily skin and one for normal to dry skin. You can get it at Target, Walgreens, and I think Walmart sometimes carries it as well. It's really amazing and I've tried other cleansers and lotions but they make me break out and irritate my skin.

2. I stick to the make up that works for me and don't try a whole lot else, at least when it comes to foundation. I use MAC foundation and powder, not only because it matches my skin tone, but also because it doesn't make me break out. I once tried to switch to a cheaper foundation and broke out for about two weeks. Never again will I try that. My skin can get quite ruddy when it's having problems and MAC always makes it look so lovely and even.

3. I stay away from the sun, and if I'm in the sun I'm sporting a good bit of sun screen. In our culture it seems being ubber ubber tan is the thing to be at the moment, but all those ladies going to the tanning beds and laying out for hours are gonna be sad old bitties one day with sun spots and damaged skin.

4. I always...ALWAYS... take off my make up before I sleep. It surprises me how many girls just fall asleep with it on, but it's just horrible for your skin. Do your skin a favor and give it a good washing and moisturizing in the evening and morning.

These are very basic things and probably nothing new to most of you, but these are the things I stick to, and what keeps my skin in good condition.

What are some of your skin care regimes?

The Best Jacket

The jacket that I'm wearing here is part of a beautiful 1940's suit. Sadly, the skirt is too tight for me to wear right now, but hopefully in a couple of months I'll be able to wear it as a set.

In life news I had to quit my third job because of a bad situation. I'm pretty bummed about it, but it's for the best. It's actually kind of nice, I get to come home and make sure the apartment is put to rights and cook dinner. I'm not gonna lie trying to have Ty cook dinner almost every night was a little bit stressful, ha. Speaking of Ty, he's working super hard on a big project for work, and will know in a few weeks if he gets the promotion, so we're holding our breath a little. It'll probably be a little bit before I can get those hair/make up tutorials going since he's my main camera man, but I promise they're in the works.

Comfort

Now here is a look I'm much more comfortable with. Not that the 60's aren't great and cat eye liner is always awesome fun, but give me a red lip and I'm home. I recently got my hair colored again (still just the demi permenant. One day my bleached hair will grow out and you all will see the glory of my mousey hair color)

I've been thinking once more of trying to do some hair tutorials, if you've been reading a while you might remember the last time I tried my camera deleted my efforts about three times, so I kinda gave up after that. Are there any hair styles you all would like to see a tutorial on? Or make up?

60's

Every once in a while I like to mix it up and this particular evening I was feeling a little 60's. A messy bee hive and some blue eye shadow were in order.

It's been a lovely three day weekend and I really don't want it to end. I guess that's the way holidays always are.

Radio Days

I had the next movie I was gonna post about all lined up and then the other night Ty and I watched Radio Days, one of Woody Allen's films. Now I know people either hate or love Woody Allen (at least it seems that way), and if you hate him just ignore this, but I personally really love his stuff (at least most of it). We have loads of his movies and we're slowly going through them all, and I just really wanted to share this one with you all!

Radio Days is a nostalgic look at the golden era of the radio. It feels a bit biopic for Woody Allen, and I'm great with that. It follows the different characters about who worked in or were heavily influenced by the radio. It even touches on when War of The Worlds aired on radio and people really believed the earth was being invaded by aliens.

There are so many wonderful people in the movie a few include Mia Farrow, Dianne Wiest and a very young Seth Green. The styling is fabulous, especially for a movie made in 1987, I feel like sometimes those movies can stray from the true styles of the 40's, but this one was really great. This is one of those movies I can see myself watching several times, it's not too deep and makes for some really great light watching.

If you're in the mood for a good nostalgic film, this is for you. It's also on Netflix for easy viewing!

Are you a fan of Woody Allen or do you dislike his movies?

Pinks

You know those times you look at photos of yourself and say "Oh my gosh, I look horrid! I'm never posting these" Well, that's what I did with these when I first saw them. This is actually the outfit I wore on my birthday, but my hair didn't do what I wanted it to, and when I looked back at the photos I didn't want to post them. Usually the way it is with me is I just need to go back to them later and realize "Oh, I guess that wasn't so bad", I was being a bit silly.

Also, I talked with an old friend on the phone last night and I was reminded I hadn't posted in a while. Sometimes it takes someone mentioning it for you to remember "Oh wow, I haven't, have I?". I've been getting used to my new jobs. Working at the two preschools is great and I'm a nanny in the late afternoon to evening, so it keeps my days quite filled. But, I certainly do not want to neglect my little blog.

Excuse my wonky hair in the photos. I'm still glad I posted them though, ha. This dress is simply wonderful, and I'm starting to fall more and more in love with Trashy Diva. Now if I just had loads of money.
