It's The Little Things

I'll go ahead and start this off with our bad news, which is...we didn't get the house. In the end it was such a stressful situation and it put way too much strain on Tyler and I. How it happened was how it was supposed to happen and we are at peace about that. I also got sick in the process, which is never fun. I think my body takes it out on me majorly when I'm stressed, good job body, good job.

Tyler and I had the best weekend though, being joyful, at peace, and relaxed. We went to a St. Patrick's Day Festival in East Nashville and indulged in some good ol' retail therapy.

Sometimes it's the little things in life that pick you up when you are down. These jeans fit again, not exactly how I would want, but they fit, and that has been a goal of mine. As silly as it might sound that made my day.

50's cat pin gift from a lovely lady

I went shopping at this lovely place called Wonders on Woodland and went to buy this darling 50's cat pin and the lady gave it to me for free. She just gave it to me and proceeded to give me a fantastic hug. It seems small but it really lifted my spirits.

I'm enjoying this time of peace and focusing on the little pleasures that make life so sweet.

Recently

I've dissapeared a little longer than normal, because things have gotten crazy and busy (as everyone's life does). I told you all how Tyler and I decided to start hunting for houses, well we found one we just adore and today we put an offer in for it. I know full well this could all fall through so I'm trying to keep a level head emotionally and not get too excited, but it is kinda exciting...

This is one of the first houses we visited...it was a pitty the inside was crazy and really cramped.

I had some fun with what might be the last of our cold weather here dressing up in some nice men's type apparel.

This is sweet Anne, one of my students (don't worry her mom works with me and is ok with me putting her pic up) She is the biggest drama queen (in the best sense of the term) and runs around making up songs and generally acting like she's in a play. I constantly want to take her home with me and hope one day to have such a cutie pie of my own. She always wants me to do her hair, sooo I have a good time with that.

I have recently gotten sick and have been consoling myself with hot toddies and awesome movies.

That's just a little update on what's going on in my neck of the woods.

I hope you all are enjoying your weekend; it's quite lovely here in Tennessee.

Colorful and Big Steps

I received this dress for Christmas this year, and it is probably one of my favorites to wear. It's chock full of color, and I think it's just super fun.

In addition to the dress being one of my favorite items, this jacket is as well. I purchased it from The Loved One while I was in California on my honey moon (so it also has lovely emotional memories to go along with it), The color is incredible, and I had never really seen anything like it before.

Lots of good and stressful (in a good way) things are being worked on in the Litton household. We are considering buying a house (super big step!) and are going through all the lovely paper work and loan officers and whatnot trying to see what we'll be doing. I'm very excited and even if we don't end up buying until next year we've started the process and it's going to be great! I'm also starting the process of applying to schools here for music positions (not that any schools know yet what the openings will be, but it's good to get in there early). Please send us your prayers and thoughts. I know that whatever happens in this next season of our life happens for a reason. If I stay at the preschool that's where I'm supposed to be, and if it happens we wait another year for a house we're ok with that. It's always exciting to work toward something though.

I hope you all have had a good start to your week!

Valentine's Day

I was so excited for Valentine's Day this year. My little preschool class was having a super awesome party with lots of sweets (which sadly I couldn't have, ha) and I was going to go all out for my outfit. I don't really have a red dress, well I do but not the right kind of red for Valentine's, so I just went with frilly and lots of lovely color.

I decided to really focus on my hair for a nice festive look. All the little girls loved it, in fact I even shared my blue flower and did one of my student's hair. If you follow me on instagram (emmyrenee is my username) you've probably seen it. However, I think the large flowers frightened some of the boys, which was actually quite funny.

I wanted to thank you all for your amazing responses to my last post. It's so encouraging to get so many suggestions and relating comments. Also, thank you for those that e-mailed me, it meant so much, I really appreciate it!

I hope you all are having a lovely start to your week.

Life at the moment

Life lately has been filled with lots of blessings and good things. I have an upper GI condition that can make life quite painful, and for the last several months I have been in constant pain, I have seen doctors and medicine never really seems to help, so I finally went to a Chiropractor/Holistic doctor (I had also been having a lot of shoulder pain, so I figured it'd fix a couple things hopefully) I'm on a new diet, free from all grains (I was already gluten free, but this is waaay harder) and all sugars, and I feel amazing. Amazing with a capital A. It's funny when you're in constant discomfort/pain you forget how wonderful it feels to be without it. I feel like I'm on cloud nine, and I'm so happy I finally have a remedy. If any of you have any good recipes (free of grain and sugars), I'm having to completely re-think the way I cook, so I would appreciate any suggestions!

Something I have been longing for for the past year has finally become a reality. Tyler and I now own a piano! Since I was a music major in college, I have missed music so very much in my daily life. Not having enough money to purchase a piano right off, I just had to wait. Which means I couldn't audition for choirs or anything. Now, all that has changed. I can once again take voice lessons and practice and enjoy my love for music.

Tyler and I have also been pouring ourselves into our city more, and deciding if we're going to stay here long term or end up moving. The choice is probably a long way off, but we're starting to think about when we want to buy a house and where we want to end up, all really exciting thoughts and decisions. All of this to say, we are very blessed. There are always times that are difficult and that doesn't make us any less blessed, but I'm enjoying this time right now, being pain free, having a new piano, and enjoying our city.

Pajama Day!

This week my preschool class had pajama day. I was pretty excited because I knew exactly what I was gonna wear, my dead stock 40's pajamas and put my hair in rollers. My kids have already gotten used to the way I dress and really enjoy it, so I thought they'd get a kick out of seeing Ms. Emma look extra silly.

Don't worry, if you are like me, and freaking out about me getting beautiful 40's pajamas dirty with crafts and preschool stuff, I wore this over it:

Haha, not the best thing to cover my pjs up with but it's a 60's number I didn't care about getting messed up. All the teachers joked about me needing a cigarette and glass of gin and the look would be complete. I probably did look like a crazy house wife a lot of the day. Any time I went to discipline the kids I almost couldn't take myself seriously.

Out To Lunch

Today I went out to lunch with the lovely Lisa of My Pretty Baby Cried She Was A Bird. She's seriously a super fun lady and we had a great lunch (even though our original plans of going to a tea house were crushed by the tea room moving spaces this week...bummer). Here's what I wore:

I found this amazing 40's suit (sadly the skirt is too small for my hips) at the Nashville Flea Market, and knew it had to be mine. In fact I did some pretty good cleaning up there last weekend, and I'm sure you'll eventually see all the goodies I purchased on here. I adore the color blue, but I don't have a ton of it in my wardrobe so even more reason for me to get it. Plus, when I got home I realized it went really well with a darling hat Ty had gotten me for Christmas. It was meant to be.
