Life Lately

I've been a bit out of blog land lately. Things have busied up here in the Litton household. I've started back up working (I had a glorious two week break from school) two summer camps and teaching private piano and voice lessons. I feel AMAZING getting to teach music. It's seriously wonderful. I also got an after school position (that will start this fall) at a local private school to teach voice lessons; I'm super pumped!

Tyler is out of town again (Boooo) but I'm getting to spend time with lots of lovely ladies so there's a bit of a silver lining.
I thought I'd show you a peek of what's been going on here. When things get a little busy I still stick with my instagram so you can follow me there at emmyrenee.

Something very good and very sad happened recently. My grandparents sold their home they had lived in for 46 years. Since my parents moved around a lot (in the Kentucky and Tennessee areas) this was the last consistent place of childhood for me, I even put my feet in the cement there when I was about 2. It's good because my grandparents are living in Nashville so they're wonderfully close (this home was in Kentucky) but it's sad to loose the place. Thankfully I have several things in my apartment to remember the old house by. These two pieces of art have been hanging there since my grandparents moved in in the 60's and they now proudly adorn my dinning room walls.

Here are some outfits I've worn recently. I've just discovered a wonderful antique mall mere minutes from where I live and have been frequenting it more than I should. I've bought some clothes that need some love and mending, and maybe won't be as good as new but I'll still wear them. I also bought an amazing 50's gym onesie there.
I can also fit back into this glorious play suit Quincy made! I'm proud to say I can fit back into all my old vintage and am still pursuing a healthy lifestyle.

What's been going on with you recently?

Flowers

When I found this dress I freaked out, and when I tried it on and it actually fit I freaked out even more. I dream of these rayon 40's dresses. I want to have a million, but sadly most of them are priced far too high for me. So I'm still in stitches I have this one.

I have been working at hand washing most of my vintage items. I had been taking a lot of things to the dry cleaners, and it makes me really nervous, so I figured I'd dive into more hands on cleaning. Well...this dress shrunk. And it actually shrunk a lot. Thankfully most of the shrinking was length and now that I've actually worn it I kinda prefer it this length.

Last night we celebrated my little sister Sarah's birthday. She's 20! I still can't believe it. It was so amazingly fun...unlike today. As I type this post I'm waiting to hear back from the mechanic about my car. It broke down on the side of the road, so ya know, not a whole lot of fun. Cross your fingers for me that it'll be up and running and won't cost me an arm and a leg. Geesh, cars.

Weekend Fun and a Hat

I still can't believe that this was my last week of school. I still have a half day on Tuesday, but that's it. Then Tyler and I will be on our way to a cabin in the woods to enjoy almost a week of blissful vacation. I'll be working at two summer camps when we get back so I won't have the whole summer off but it'll be a much slower pace.
I found an amazing new antique mall yesterday called Tennessee Antique Mall (I know, not the most original name ever) where there were loads of goodies to be had. I'm so happy I have yet another place to frequent for all my vintage needs. I happened upon one of the vendors discounting loads of clothing, so I snapped up several items. Those of you who follow me on instagram (emmyrenee) will have gotten a look at what I found.
Amongst the lovely finds was this hat:

I love it because it's got waaaay more color than any hats I have previously owned, and I'm trying to be bolder with my hat choices. I think this fit the bill perfectly.

Recently

It's been super rainy here lately in Nashville. The last two weekends have been engulfed by it. However, I think we're finally drying out and this week promises (at least at the moment) to be dryer.

With lots of rain there's also been lots of sleeping in, hehe. Actually Tyler was gone traveling for about half the month of April so this sleeping was very much deserved.

We got to go see the Nashville Symphony this past weekend. It was glorious, lots of Brahms and Debussy. Right up my ally.

Lots of pampering. Nail doing, and Tyler spoiling me with 50's dresses and amazing hats.

I'm so happy Tyler is finally home for a while and that the weather is looking up. Also there are only two weeks of school left (whooooa!) and we will be going on a little vacation to a cabin in the woods with family, so I cannot wait for that. Come on summer I cannot wait to greet you!

What have you been up to lately?

eShakti: A Review

Ok, not to overwhelm the blog with reviews, but I have another great one for you guys. eShakti asked me to review a sample for them and I was really thrilled to do so. I've looked at some reviews by other bloggers and thought their site and style looked very interesting. One of the things that caught my attention was that for $7.50 you can have whatever garment you order completely customized to your measurements. This is a suuuper wonderful thing for a lady shaped as I am. I have a large difference in my waist to hip ratio and even though I'm not busty I still have problems with things being perfect at the bust but too big in the waist. So, given this fantastic option I decided to go for it. I got this lovely dress fit to my measurements and it did not disappoint.

I also like the other options that eShakti offers such as adding sleeves (and lengths of sleeves), different neck lines, and dress length. There are many times I have looked at a dress and thought it would be so adorable if the length was a little longer. They have a wonderful classic and vintage flair to a lot of their clothing that makes it perfect for any vintage lady and also with most things under $100, makes it more budget friendly. The size choices for their garments are also fantastic going up to a 6X or 36W. Their custom options can accommodate any size though.

The dress I ordered is very well made. It is good sturdy material that feels as if it will last and nothing about it seems cheap. This will be a dress I will wear over and over again.
