Strip Strip Hooray!

Well lovelies, I'm back from Chicago! If any of you didn't know I went to see Strip Strip Hooray! I was afraid Dita would never come closer to me than this and so I took the plunge. I thought we were gonna be able to stay longer/do more things, which sadly just didn't pan out. So I'm saving everyone's suggestions for my next trip. And boy are we planning a next trip. I hadn't been to Chicago since I was a little girl, so I didn't really remember how amazing it was.
Sadly, I was not allowed to take any photos inside the venue so I have only my outfit to show you lovely ladies and gents. Even then we had to take some hurriedly behind our hotel, so really sorry for the tacky background.

I about fainted when I found this dress in a local antique mall. I've always dreamed of one of these 50's vixen wiggle dresses, but because of my plentiful hips they always fit far too large in the bust or too tight in the hips. I always sigh and walk away from them. This time I decided I was gonna try it even if I was crazy dissapointed in the end, but lo and behold it fit! I had already planned on wearing a darling little tikki wrap dress I had, but this became the new plan.

Even though we originally went to see Dita perform, I think we ended up liking some of the other shows that were with her even better. Her costumes were out of this world, but some of the other performers were far more lively and fun to watch. Like Dirty Martini and Prince Poppycock. So funny and wonderful!
I'll leave you with a photo of me and my darling sister Sarah. We had a fabulous time and I'm so glad I got to go with her.

Sarah wore: 50's wrap tikki dress (mine) gaslamp antique mall

I wore: 50's dress gaslamp antique mall

The 4th

So for the 4th of July my family invited us to go on a little mini vacation to the Biltmore in NC. If you're not from the USA or have never heard of it, it's completely awesome. Maybe not for people from Europe because I imagine you have loads of old mansions/homes like it just hanging around (or at least that's what I imagine). Basically it's the largest privately owned home in America and was built by George Vanderbilt from 1889-1895. They have most of the home refurbished and restored to what it would have looked like originally, which is just wonderful. They have different tours you can take through the house, we did the main one and then the butler's tour, which was so much fun. It felt like we were touring Downton Abbey.

And this is an amazing family video my hubby threw together of the trip. I hope you enjoy it!

Sister Photoshoot

Hello Lovelies! I hope everyone (even if not here in America) had a fabulous 4th of July. I did, and I can't wait to show you photos from where I went. Until then I have some great photos my sister Sarah and I got to do together.
Shelby Smith was the amazing photographer, and she was such fun to work with. If you ever need some photographs taken in the Nashville area seriously give this lady a call. Jo Smith, Shelby's sister (so it was quite the sister affair) did our hair and make up. I had such fun having giant eye lashes and rocking a cool updo. If any body needs a cut and color or just an amazing updo (that will not budge an inch), she's your lady.

Bloglovin' and Trashy Diva

I wanted to remind all my lovely followers that in just a few short days Google Reader will be shutting down, so if you've been following me there, consider moving over to Bloglovin'. I've used it for a while now, and it's really great.

This dress is one of my favorites. I instagrammed it a while back, because when I first bought it a year ago I had to wear a corset, and now I need zero help getting into it. Yippee.
I wish Trashy Diva would bring back this print, I never got to buy it in the style I really wanted. I would seriously have five dresses in this print if I could.
Also, couldn't resist putting this close up in that Ty took. People are always telling me what lovely blue eyes I have, but they are green people! Seriously, green.

I can't stop wearing this beautiful celluloid necklace I picked up at the flea market. I now feel the need to have a million celluloid necklaces.

What is an item you can't stop wearing?

It's Summertime

Well, we've finally reached that point here in Tennessee where it's just. so. hot. It's humid and you sweat if you walk more than 5 feet. Though I'm happy we got as much cool/warm weather as we did this spring, we aren't usually blessed with an abundance of that.

In other news...this skirt is my new favorite.

I'm sure you all are sick and tired of seeing some kind of yellow scarf in my hair (or maybe you haven't noticed that it's become a trend of mine) but I didn't realize how drawn I am to yellow, especially in my hair, until recently. I think it's because I've had the same hair color for so long I'm accumulating colors I like to see against it. But soon, I shall abandon the dark hair and finally start rinsing out the dye to see my natural color again. I know, I've been talking about that for months and months, but in a short while it will finally be time!

Visiting Chicago

Today, lovely readers, I need some help from you. I'm planning a visit to Chicago (with my hubby and sister) in July. My sister and I are going to see Dita Von Teese perform *swoon* and we'll be there for a day and half. I need your knowledge of any good vintage or antique shops (or simply shops you love) and tasty places to eat. So what say you? Can you give me some suggestions?

Thank you so much lovelies!

Life Lately

I've been a bit out of blog land lately. Things have busied up here in the Litton household. I've started back up working (I had a glorious two week break from school) two summer camps and teaching private piano and voice lessons. I feel AMAZING getting to teach music. It's seriously wonderful. I also got an after school position (that will start this fall) at a local private school to teach voice lessons; I'm super pumped!

Tyler is out of town again (Boooo) but I'm getting to spend time with lots of lovely ladies so there's a bit of a silver lining.
I thought I'd show you a peek of what's been going on here. When things get a little busy I still stick with my instagram so you can follow me there at emmyrenee.

Something very good and very sad happened recently. My grandparents sold their home they had lived in for 46 years. Since my parents moved around a lot (in the Kentucky and Tennessee areas) this was the last consistent place of childhood for me, I even put my feet in the cement there when I was about 2. It's good because my grandparents are living in Nashville so they're wonderfully close (this home was in Kentucky) but it's sad to loose the place. Thankfully I have several things in my apartment to remember the old house by. These two pieces of art have been hanging there since my grandparents moved in in the 60's and they now proudly adorn my dinning room walls.

Here are some outfits I've worn recently. I've just discovered a wonderful antique mall mere minutes from where I live and have been frequenting it more than I should. I've bought some clothes that need some love and mending, and maybe won't be as good as new but I'll still wear them. I also bought an amazing 50's gym onesie there.
I can also fit back into this glorious play suit Quincy made! I'm proud to say I can fit back into all my old vintage and am still pursuing a healthy lifestyle.

What's been going on with you recently?
