Once Again

Ok, so I know everybody said they really liked my black hair, but I just didn't feel like it was completely me. So, I went on a journey to lighten it. An emotional, tear filled, journey. After several mis-haps, processing my poor hair what felt like a million times, a hair cut, and a burnt scalp later this is what I look like. Please be kind as I've had a rough journey the last few days, but I must say I like it and will enjoy experimenting with my new 'do.

It looks a little crunchy in these photos because the poor thing has been through a lot and it was still a little wet-ish. Basically most of my hair actually went platinum blond because my natural hair color is so light, but the rest that had dye on it stuck to a orangy yellow. So, I covered it up with some red, which was actually supposed to be darker, but that's ok, and my lovely friend Quincy cut it for me. She is seriously a life saver.

I have a million different deep conditioning products right now and am planing to blast my hair back to healthy as time goes on. If any of you have any remedies you love let me know!

I hope all you dears have had a fantastic weekend. Also, thank you all for your wonderful comments on my last few posts, it really means a lot to me. AND thank you all for getting me to 400 followers! I appreciate all of you so much.

xo,
 Em

  1. Aw I love it! You look like Rachel McAdams in the Notebook :) I've been thru the getting rid of black before and it does suck. Glad it ended well!

  2. Darling, you look as gorgeous as you always do, your hair doesn't even look traumatised. I'm having a crap hair week too, I cut my own fringe and did a stupid job of it. :/

  3. I loved the black, but I must say I think I ADORE this colour way more - it's so soft and spring like! I just went back to some more red yesterday and it's just such a fun colour to have ;) Love this on you!

  5. Oh dear! I always have nightmares about doing my hair myself - even cutting my own fringe is always scary! That said - you pulled through and it looks lovely!! I really love the new length!

  6. AH! AH! I love it. So perfect with the red lip. Pale-skinned girls can get away with any hair color, really.

  7. {{{Big hugs}}} I've been there (drastic hair colour change that does not go even remotely as planned), and fully understand the roller coaster you must have felt like you've been on lately. I think that the colour turned out beautifully in the end. Very ethereal and thoroughly fantastic for the sunny months.

  9. I know how you feel, I ended up with super dark hair once when trying to dye my hair a medium brown. It looked fine but it was just so not me! I ended up doing the hard and scary bleaching it back to bright red and my hair and I both survived... It is a very emotional experience! I recommend lots of deep conditioning or hot oil treatments (I think with mine I put warm jojoba oil in there overnight then washed it out) and trying not to do any heat styling for awhile until it recovers. Having it cut should really help though because most of the damage would be at the ends.

I think it turned out well though! I hope it won't be too hard getting it back to being healthy and happy :)

  10. The colour is gorgeous on you, I would advise to let your hair dry naturally for a while, if indeed you do use a hair dryer! Have a lovely xx

  13. Good to know that you're happier about the colour now. I know what you mean. I've tried a new colour few days ago and now I can't even look at my red wig. It's looks awfull...But I don't want to damage my hair cause I did some colour wash some time ago when I decided to go from black to ginger. So just waiting now...

  17. Lovely lady, you look gorgeous as always! I'm trying to lighten my hair too at the moment and it feels like straw! Olive oil treatments are always good at restoring moisture, as is coconut oil. xx Fran

  20. You poor darling! Going through all that with your hair is no fun; I had a scalp burn years ago when I had a permanent and it was the most uncomfortable feeling. :/ But I do have to say that I love the light, red color you're now sporting, as well as the shorter locks! :) You look so lovely and ready for summer!

  21. Oh I love it! Me and my hair have had a pretty rough journey too, I bleached it for quite a few years then I dyed it brown and it was really brittle and some snapped off. It was in such bad condition. I've used macadamia oil and Bed Head Urban Antidotes Resurrection Shampoo and Conditioner. They both really helped!

  22. I am going to miss the black hair, but that is the thing about hair. It can change your whole look around and you have the power to change at any given second of the day. You look gorgeous no matter the color. I wonder what you would have looked like as platinum blonde like Marilyn Monroe or Jean Harlow. To bring your hair back to life you should deep condition with Coconut oil or Jojoba oil. I hope your hair bounces back to just the way to like it to feel and look.

  28. Aw, I did love the black but I think the color is absolutely perfect for you :) It doesn't look traumatized at all! I really like the cut - the length suits you very well :)

I've definitely put my hair through it's fair share of torture, my advice is to deep condition with placenta packs (they sell them at Sally Beauty - it's not human placenta lol). Also get a bottle of Redken Anti-Snap (Sally Beauty does sell a generic version for about half the price... the Redken one is better, though) and use that frequently... the Anti-Snap has saved my hair on more than one occasion.

  29. Oh I love them.I generally love red hair but red hair with a pin up style are much more gorgeous!

  30. The dark hair was beautiful, but I think the lighter color suits your skin better. With the curls, it's very Marilyn Monroe.

  35. Absolutely stunning. This color and cut is perfect on you, doll! I don't dye my hair but it gets split ends super easily and I use coconut oil as my remedy. Smells good and really does the trick. :)

  36. The colour looks lovely! When I over-processed my hair (back in high school) I found making a hair mask with egg yolk works wonders. My hair was breaking off after a bad dark-blond dye job and the egg seemed to really strength it and stop the breakage. I think I combined the yolk with a bit of olive oil, but I can't quite remember...

  38. just found your blog from the link you put on annie pancake. am so glad. the sraberry blonde is darling on you and i would have never thought you were the same person with the black. you look stunning

  39. I've recently gone through something similar! I tried to lighten my hair from black to a golden-brown, but it just turned reddish-brown. Hairdye is such a strange thing, fickle too.
I think that this new shade proves that you can do no wrong when it comes to hair color. Someone else said this, but it really does remind me of Rachel McAdams from The Notebook. :)

  42. The Note Book. That is all ;) Bahaha, I bet you'll be thinking...hmmm if I had a dollar for every time I got that...hehe =P

When my hair was so fried I thought it was going to fall off from the roots, I got this:

    http://www.myhaircare.com.au/Force_Vector_Masque_1558.html

It SAVED my hair!!! My hair was so wrecked I thought I was going to loose ALL of it. I held it on for 20 minutes and did this twice in the same week (I cannot stress how bad my hair was!!) and afterwards it was almost back to normal. Hope this helps :)

  45. I have to say, I prefer you with lighter hair, especially with a bit of red. I think you made a good decision! To me, it doesn't look fried at all :) It has to be pretty bad for me to even notice! haha. I use my Redken Anti-snap every morning and it just makes things much softer. It's worth a shot if you haven't tried it before :)
