Feeling Meh

I have been feeling pretty uninspired and unmotivated as of late. Bear with my while I vent a bit. 

My hair won't set right, maybe I just need to get it thinned or it's because I murdered it with bleach, but pin curls will not dry at all (I used to have much longer hair and it would dry over night) it takes almost two days for a set to dry now. If anybody can give me ideas it would be much appreciated!

I find it hard putting together outfits, partially because some of the things I love aren't fitting exactly right. I've gained about 10 pounds in the past several months and am currently working on loosing it, which can always be a bit of a downer. But, exercise and whatnot will improve things there.

Altogether, I'm just uninspired. That's a big reason I haven't been posting much, I don't have any creative ideas for my hair or wardrobe and am just feeling like I'm in a slump.

What do you all do when you feel like you're in a creative slump? I would love to know.

  1. When I feel uninspired,I take a step back from technology and watch a funny movie,hang out with a friend for coffee,or read a good book. Or,you could browse Pinterest or Tumblr for ideas. Best wishes! :)

  2. I get this way a lot. Normally, I just kind of sit down and read other blogs for inspiration. Sometimes, I go out to eat or hang out with some good friends and talk. Also, just having a lazy day, watching a heartwarming movie can make you feel a little bit better!

  3. Sorry you have the mehs! It's such a tough call when you feel uninspired. Sometimes it inspires me to look at other people's blogs and see what they're up to, what they're wearing, etc, but then sometimes it makes me feel even worse. I've been having serious hair setting issues lately myself that have made me feel crappy for awhile now, so I know partially where you're coming from. All I can say is {hugs}, hope you feel less meh soon!

  4. When I'm feeling uninspired, I experiment with a new recipe. While eating it, I indulge in a brand new magazine or some favorite blogs. Usually picks my spirits up a little bit and gets me excited to be creative again. Sometimes a change of scenery is in order, like a quick day trip.

  5. When I am feeling uninspired, I look for inspire from my scrapbook, inspiration file filled with pics from the past or watch some old movie. And also other blogs! Sometimes it helps me if I go to a thrift store and browse some clothing racks, search something new to put on. I hope you feel better soon! hugs!!

  6. Oh, I hope your inspiration snaps back soon!! I always feel a little lackluster this time of year... between the muggy humid weather and my job, it's tough to summon the energy and inspiration to dress up. I've found films and books to be helpful, though; at the moment I'm reading a biography of Gypsy Rose Lee, and darned if it didn't make me reach for dark red lipstick and my most glamorous dresses again :)

    PS: Like you and Tasha, my hair's been giving me a hard time too, sigh... my pincurls don't stand a chance against the humidity :(

  7. When it comes to hair I like to browse around YouTube for inspiration, I can be stuck there for hours watching different tutorials. But then I end up doing the same old thing to my hair all the time. :P But hey, it keeps me entertained. But two days for a set to dry? Ugh! I hope it gets better soon!

    And I so know what you're saying about those pesky pounds that come sneaking. I've gained close to 14 but I hope I can get rid of them again. If only I could surpress that sweettooth of mine for a little while.

  8. When I'm in a creative slump, sometimes I cry and take a nap. Sometimes I buy fantastic shoes. But most of the time, I write. I write about how I'm in a slump. Then I get all sorts of bloggy love and encouragement, which is exactly what I'm sending to you.

Obviously I'm not a vintage fashionista so my advice refers a little more to sewing and/or cooking, but when I'm feeling uninspired I do a few pinterest searches or read through archives of my favorite blogs (and sometimes my own). Another thing that sometimes inspires me is to go back through some older pictures on my computer that I never posted/forgot about.

    And when all that fails I clean my house and go for a walk. I usually see something interesting on my walk and when I think about coming home to a clean house I'm excited to start a new project.

    However it happens, I hope your slump ends soon!

  10. I posted a similar thing earlier this week called "staying motivated". I too am trying to lose a few pesky pounds to fit in summer clothes from last year, and it is SO frustrating! Basically, the sum of my post was that I feel SO motivated in the morning and have so many goals and plans for after work. I pack healthy lunches, plan to work on my shop,etc. But then when about 3pm rolls around, I just want to go home, eat large quantities of junk food, and watch netflix, sigh.

    I actually got a lot of motivation this week though from readers who responded letting me know some ti[s on how they stay motivated. I really love how supportive this whole community really is, and its always comforting to know others are having the same feelings as you!

  11. Creative slumps are tough! I usually enjoy cruising through Pinterest or doing boards on Polyvore, they seem to help me work through it.

  12. I'm sorry to hear you're feeling this way, but I completely understand. I've felt the same way too many times. (Particularly lately, as I'm in the middle of a huge assessment for uni)
    I think Tasha's advice is very good. Either have a look at blogs etc that normally inspire you and/or if that doesn't work, take a break completely.
    See friends, do something (anything) different. If you keep trying and something isn't working, take a step away and work on something else instead.
    I've found avoiding technology for a while and just catching up with friends in person, getting about, looking at places you haven't had the time to see (eg galleries, cafes, etc) can really help. Hopefully that'll remind you of your zest, or inspire you in a different way.
    A change is as good as a holiday.
    I hope things get better for you soon, I'd love to hear how you get over your slump (and I'm also happy to listen to any venting you have if things don't go perfect, I think blogs should be there for both the good and the bad. It's nice to know you're not alone)

  14. Don't beat yourself up or worry too much (easier said than done, I know), even the most productive of us have periods like this. It's normal - in fact, I think it would be odd if we didn't all encounter such times every now and then, as I think they're our mind and body's way of telling us to take a much needed breather.

I've been employing these techniques both this year, and throughout all the time I've been running Chronically Vintage, and find that they really can help a lot when you start to feel your blogging energy sinking.

  16. Oh no! Slumps are the worst. I hate those feelings you describe. Here's my advice: Remember that above all, blogging should be fun for YOU. Don't feel pressured to come up with original wonderful outfits and ideas if you just aren't feeling it. Give yourself some space to breathe, and don't be so hard on yourself. 10 lbs can be gone in the same amount of time they arrived. Plus you have one of those lovely bodies that can still look great with the extra curvage. Chin up, pretty girl!
