Ups and Downs

Well, I did not get the music position I interviewed for. It's one of those downs in life, something you hoped for, but wasn't meant to be. I get to be a preschool teacher this fall, and I'm starting to get very excited for that. It's a good thing. I have a job, and a job that I'm going to thoroughly enjoy. Another up and down is the fact that I've gained some weight these past several months. I'm on the journey to becoming healthier and loosing those extra pounds, hitting the gym 5 times a week and eating well. But isn't it so frustrating when something doesn't happen instantly?  I think that's our culture, if it doesn't happen exactly when we want it there's something wrong. I need to remind myself to be healthy, to work hard, and after that it will just take some time.

What are some of your ups and downs lately?

  1. Your makeup is a definite UP, hon. It looks great! But I'm sorry to hear you didn't get the job. I went through the same thing a few years ago, and even though you know you have another job waiting, it's hard not to get your #1 choice. Good luck with teaching preschool, and with any upcoming interviews you do!

I'm experiencing the same not-so-good up as you. Since January, with Keith around more and more often (and with him taking me out to eat all the time), my weight quickly crept up. I'm convinced that having a man around the house is bad for a woman's figure! I'm 27 days into Jillian Michaels' 30 Day Shred, and I see improvements, but not as quickly as I'd like. Worse, I often wear outfits I love and want to blog, but I don't feel comfortable with the way I look in photos, so I don't feel ready for that. If you ever want a local workout buddy, let me know! :)

    1. Thank you so much Jen! Yes! As soon as I got married I started gaining a bit of weight, those men ;) Thank you, I may take you up on that. If not that, we should go get coffee and tea or something sometime :)

  2. I love your new hair colour, I swear, you are one of those lucky people that can have hair any colour and still look incredible! Sorry to hear that you didn't get your first job preference, but it sounds like teaching kindergarten will be a lot of fun too :D

I am feeling the same about my figure, I was overseas for the last two months and in that time ate a lot of bad things...so I haven't been feeling too confident posting any outfit photos either...

    1. Thank you! Yes, it's hard posting outfit photos when you don't feel like your best self. Here's to feeling better though!

  3. Love the new hair. The key to weight loss is lifestyle change. Eat right, exercise, no crazy diet because the wieght will come back on after the diet. Good luck, Laura

  5. Aw sorry to hear you didn't get the position you were hoping for. But it's great you have another to look forward to, there's never a dull moment with children ;)

I've gained a bit since Sam and I got married, and am starting to eat better. More fruits and veggies, less pasta and dairy (dairy just makes me feel not so great). Rather than cut things out I just cut down. So far so good, now working on some strength building :)

I'm loving this walking weather, but am afraid when the rain hits I'll be sluggish again! Now searching for an awesome vintage exercise bike. Bring on the terry cloth shorts.

Good luck, I'm right there with you if you need any support!

    1. That is very true, I expect a lot of excitement out of the kids ha. Yes, that's what I'm working on! Everything in moderation and just being healthy and working out well. I know, the weather dictates my exercise mood so much. I hope you find your bike! Thank you so much for the support :)

  6. Your hair is looking perfect, wonderful set! Sorry to hear about the job, but it is excellent you have one waiting for you! I need to exercise I do not do any at all, which is rather bad, need to get my bike out whilst there is a bit of sun. Have a wonderful week xx

  9. I'm sorry to hear that the job you'd had your hopes up for didn't come to fruition. As my mom is keen on saying, it just wasn't meant to be then and there's something even better waiting out there for you, sweet dear.

I think you look look stunningly beautiful at whatever size you are (seriously, we all fluctuate and I think we are the only ones who notice our own changes).

  13. I'm sorry to hear about the job, but being a preschool teacher sounds like great fun! It is frustrating when things don't happen straight away, but you are absolutely beautiful and if you're hitting the gym 5 times a week you'll definitely being improving your health and fitness!

  14. Your hair looks super cute. We all have ups and downs, when I have a down or get down I try to think there are always people out there who have it way worse that me and that I should be up because my life is pretty good!

  15. Sorry to hear you didn't get the position, but it's great that you have one you're starting to look forward to. Hopefully it will be a great school year for you!

Major down is our best friends are moving out of the country, so our social circle just shrank considerably. Ups? I had family visit our new house for the first time. But I admit it's felt like more down than up lately, so I'm trying to work on that. :)

  16. I am sorry you didn't get the job you were hoping for! There will definitely be more opportunities to come your way. You're so lucky to have such a fun job in line! Hopefully this job will bring you growth and happiness!

I've also been experiencing the same down as you on the weight side. In one year, I went from my lowest weight to my heaviest. It was a wake up call when I came home from college. I got sick and went to the doctor and when they weighed me I was absolutely shocked to see how much I had gained over my freshmen year. The freshmen 15 (or like 30) isn't a myth. Ugh. It's just my love for fried chicken! Haha.

I've been getting myself into check for the past month and a half and I have a really long way to go. It sucks not get that instant gratification for hard work. On the up and up, you look GORGEOUS!

  17. sorry you didn't get the job but at least you have a job that you know you will love. it will be so much fun working with kids. keep looking and you will find the perfect one for you. the job you didn't get made the wrong decision passing you up but that is their problem. keep your spirits up sweetie and everything will fall in place where they should be.

your hair looks great in these pictures!

  19. If it makes you feel better, I thought you looked slimmer! Honestly! Plus I've been trying to lose those last 5 pounds for a about 14 months now It's rough but we can't lose hope because if one focuses on makeing the body stronger and healthier I believe the pounds don't matter you've probz hit the last 5 vanity pounds.

  20. I think you're an absolutely wonderful lady and that your students will be lucky (and thrilled!) to have you as their teacher.

I've been trying to lose some weight lately.. and it's hard. :( I think you're flawless just as you are, but I wish you all the luck in this. Maybe we can be virtual workout buds, ;).

  21. Ahhh I'm sorry you didn't get the job you were hoping for, but what can you do but keep looking forward. Maybe next time! :)
I've gained 6 kilos since the beginning of this year. Ugh! Me and my appetite. :P I am trying to lose them again now, keeping track of each and every calorie, but it's a slow slow process.

*glances over at the candy next to her*

    Oh. Maybe that's why. :P

  23. I swear, it's the menfolks fault... they can just eat SO MUCH MORE than us ladies. I understand the weight thing, I've been working on it lately, and it can be really difficult when there are lots of people saying "you really don't need to!" when you're thinking to yourself "uh, yes I do!" So good luck with that.
My ups are that I'm finally getting healthier and that I got to take engagement photos with my love this week. Downs? The miserably hot weather and a lack of employment.

  24. Well, we've had some family crisis (plural?) lately on my hubby's side and mine...very much downers. And I've been really struggling to enjoy my job and face the next few years of working it! But on the up, the hubby has a shot at a job that could really help us out...and I have been reading some great books lately :)
