Peasant Blouse

The other day one of the ladies at my work surprised me by giving me three lovely vintage skirts that had been her older sisters (and perhaps mothers?) in the 50's and 60's. She talked about how one skirt in particular she remembers her sister wearing with a lovely peasant blouse, and so I immediately knew I had to have one to wear with my darling new skirt. I can't really afford much new clothing at the moment, but I did have some fabric and so decided to grab a pattern and see if I could swing it. I have tried sewing on and off for several years now, and it just never seems to stick. However, this blouse turned out pretty well! I'm already plotting a few more, and I'm gonna try to stick with it this time.

Those who actually sew will scoff at me I'm sure for how nervous I was making this super simple blouse. It was really nerve-racking though! I did it, it's far from perfect, but I will make a few more, and who knows maybe I'll try to make a skirt or dress?

  3. I know I said this already but I'm so happy you're getting back into sewing! The blouse looks great! You should check out some of the free video tutorials on Craftsy for help with zippers and things like that. Or, if you don't want to mess with zippers yet, try sewing a wrap skirt. Those are fun and really easy. I can't wait to see more things you create!

    1. Thank you! Ohh, thanks for the tip I will check that out. Oh, that's such a good idea! I know I'm gonna try to make a few more of these blouses to feel more secure haha, but I would love to try a wrap skirt. Do you have any patterns that you would recommend?

    1. Thank you! Ohh that sounds lovely. I used a New Look pattern number 6179. I altered it a bit, putting in elastic in the neck and whatnot, but it was really great to use.

  20. Fabulous outfit! That sweet, cheerful peasant blouse turned out great. I don't have the sewing gene (so to speak) either (much as I wish to high heaven that I did) and can completely relate to the trepidation you felt in approaching this project. It turned out awesomely though, dear Emma, fear not!

  28. What a nice suprise! Yay for getting back into sewing! The greatest thing about it (for me) is that when you recycle materials, sewing can be virtually free-besides the time you put into it.
