Freddies of Pinewood's Jeans: Reviewed

I have been lusting over Freddies of Pinewood's jeans for a while, so I decided to take the plunge and get a pair. I bought the Classic Indigo and ordered a 26" waist. It's usually very difficult for me to find high waisted well fitted pants. I have a 26" waist and a 41" hip, quite the difference. I'm happy to conclude that these pants actually fit. They are a bit snug, but going up a size would have made them look silly at the waist, I think, as they are VERY high waisted pants.

The denim is wonderful; soft and dark and the pants are very well made. The one small problem I had was that they still gapped just a little (shown in the pic below). This is a problem I have a lot so it doesn't bother me a ton. When I laid the pants down the measurement taken flat was 13" at the waist and 19" at the hip, which was a nice difference I thought.

All together I would say this style of pant fit very well. I can't speak for their different styles of jeans though. I have also been wanting a pair of their dungarees, but I think I would size up to a 28" waist in those to ensure a looser fit in the hip area.
I think if you are worried about the waist to hip ratio go with your waist size at least with these style of jeans. As long as your waist to hip ratio is no bigger than a 15" ish difference you should be fine.

I hope this helped some of you out there wondering! Let me know if you have any other questions.

  1. You have SUCH a rockin' bod! I love this look on you. I have a 42" waist and 46" hip measurement and while it's not much of a difference, you can DEFINITELY tell in denim pants. I often get a size that SHOULD fit my waist, yet they are super tight (and often won't even go up) against my thighs. It's so annoying!!!

Skirts are another hard one for me... Smaller waist, bigger behind and hips... I can rarely find a style I like. I've noticed longer, elastic banded skirts that are more flowy than form-fitting work well! I call them my Southern skirts, because they are bright and cheerful and remind me of pretty Southern Belles. ^_^

  2. Thanks for the review! I have a large waist-hip ratio, and have always been weary about their measurements. Might just have to try them out :)

  8. I love the whole evolution of your look. I think you have struck gold with this winning combination. This style of pants are the only things I would be caught dead in. The classic high-waist trousers...Ahhh.

  9. They're amazing! Been looking to invest in some FoP jeans for a while but I had no idea which style to go for since there are so many options. But I think this post has made up my mind.
Like you, I have a pretty big waist-hip difference so it's good to know they'll fit.
Thanks for the post. Looking wonderful as usual!

  10. You look so fabulous! I'm glad to hear that these worked out for you. I too have a 26" waist and 41" hips and can never find pants that fit well. Looks like I'll have to give these a go!

  11. Thanks for reviewing; I've been dreaming of getting a pair for quite a while. I've got a rather large waist-hip ratio myself, so it's great to know Freddies may actually fit. And you look incredibly adorable in yours!!

  12. You look killer in these! I wish these kind of pants looked good on me, but I'm so NOT curvy that it just looks strange when I wear high-waisted pants. =[

  13. I have a large waist hip ratio {33" waist, 45" hip} at least it seems pretty large to me. LOL! They look great on you. Besides if you need extra room in the hip, order up a size. I hear if you take them to a tailor you can easily have them darted in the waist and it still looks nice.

  14. Ouuu these are nice jeans! I also have a teenie waist but a big bootie/big hips, so maybe these kinds of pants would be perfect :O !

Love the way you styled them!

  15. Wonderful! I was really concerned about the ratio too, but since we have the same hip measurements, and I would be purchasing a 28 in. waist, then they should fit. I may buy a pair of these online instead of the Bernie Dexter's I saw in a vintage repro shop here in town.

  20. You look thoroughly lovely! I adore the blend of casual and more glamorous (aka, the beautiful red heels) at work in this timelessly wonderful outfit.

  21. Well, you are very curvy, but these pants showcase that in a very lovely way. The red heels are what made the outfit for me though!

  24. I'm so jealous of women that can pull off the high-waisted pant. I can do pencil skirts, but not pants.

  25. Those shoes look like straight out of the 1940s, I love it. Actually surprised you got them at Modcloth, I need to stalk their website more often, haha. :) The jeans looks great on you!

  27. I'm stunned that you found FoP to work for your waist/hip ratio, because that's precisely the problem I had with them. I had the opportunity to try on a few pairs before buying (and oh, was I excited!), but sadly couldn't find a pair that fit my own 28/40 ratio. If they fit at the waist, I could barely get them zipped over my hips. Size up to fit my hips, and I had a denim pouch at the waist that seemed big enough to carry a baby. I wound up eventually finding an actual vintage pair at a good price online, but they won't last forever. I need to find something that will work!

    1. I totally understand that's so frustrating. I would recommend you try Vivien of Holloway trousers I think they have that exact ratio!
