My Man Godfrey

As much as I completely adore old movies, I realized I hadn't posted about any of them. SO I thought I would remedy that.
First let me start off with a little bit about my history with old movies. I grew up with no cable so we didn't watch anything that came on tv. Both my parents were big old movie fans so pretty much any time spent in front of the tv we were watching an old movie. I have really early memories of watching Harvey, My Man Godfrey, The Rage of Paris and loads of others. I have grown in my love and appreciation for these movies, and they are what sparked my interest in vintage style.

One of my favorites is My Man Godfrey, which came out in 1936. I've always adored William Powell (like he may be one of my favorite actors ever) and who doesn't love Carol Lombard?

My Man Godfrey is the story about a wealthy man named Godfrey Park (William Powell) who has abandoned his riches to live in the city dump, a Hooverville esque place. While he's there he has a run in with a wealthy woman, Irene Bullock (Carol Lombard) and after he participates in a game she is playing she hires him as a butler and things will never be the same for poor Godfrey. If you haven't seen the movie, please do, you'll have a wonderful time watching it. It's now on Netflix for easy viewing! Edit: I just checked Netflix and it looks as if they've taken it down! Maybe they'll put it back up at some point. They do have it on Hulu Plus though.

Have you ever seen My Man Godfrey before? What are some of your favorite movies?

xo,
 Em

  1. Watching old movies while I was growing up also influenced my interest in vintage style. My grandma didn't have cable but she did have an assortment of old movies on VHS!

I've been meaning to watch My Man Godfrey. I have Netflix so I'll be watching it ASAP! :)

  2. Aw, William Powell. I recently watched all the Thin Man movies. What fun! And I love Jimmy Stewart, so I'm working my way through all of his movies (too bad he did so many westerns...not so into those.)

  3. Oh I'll have to save that in my queue! I love older movies. I have been going through the "1001 movies you must see before you die" book for the last 4-ish years, so I've watched quite a few lately!
