After quite a while of saying I would get to some hair tutorials, here is one! I'm hoping to work on one or two every weekend, so hopefully there will be more to come soon. I hope you all enjoy it and let me know if you have any questions!

  4. You are too adorable! This was a great tutorial!! I haven't had much luck with the hot rollers I have, hot sticks seem to work best for my thin hair. But I think I may have to give them another go!

  5. Thank you for this great tutorial! I've always shied away from hot rollers because my hair is so thick, but you've inspired me to give them another try.

  7. Lovely, thanks a mill, I wanna try that! My hair is longer though...

    1. Even if your hair is longer this should work, as long as your hair takes to hot sets.

  10. Ach, you are so cute! I love this because it's beautiful but not at all intimidating, even for someone like me who is NOT good with hair. See you at the Nash blogger meetup this week?

  11. You are such a darling ! Thank you for this, now I really need hot rollers :) (I've thought you have naturally curly hair :D)

    1. I do have naturally curly hair, you're right! Sadly, I've murdered almost all the curl out by bleaching it (and it's now growing out) Also, I do this set on about day 7 of dirty hair so all my natural curl that's left has been brushed out.

  15. Absolutely splendid video and technique, dear gal, thank you very much for sharing. My hair won't hold a curl with hot rollers to save my life, but I still use them sometimes for gentle ways or to inject body into my hair fairly quickly if I want to do a lot of backcombing.

  20. Awesome! I loved watching this (although I doubt it would work for me - sadly, my hair doesn't take too well to hot sets BOO). I'd love to see some wet-set tutorial if you're up for them :)

    1. I know what you mean, mine won't hold them unless my hair is super dirty. This was done with a good seven days without washing my hair, haha. Yeah, I'm planning some wet sets for upcoming tutorials!

  21. Oh man! This is great. I love you hair and I'm so happy you shared this. I just don't think I would ever have the patience to wait 30 minutes with all that stuff hanging off of my head!

  25. Awesome tutorial Em! Thanks so much for posting this....I've always wanted to know how you get your hair into that gorgeous style. And you are such a cutie in the video....a natural at tutorials (made me giggle when you said to spray the crap out of your hair, hee hee :) ). Can't wait to see more

  26. Sooooo pretty with a beautiful voice.

  27. Great tutorial! The style really suits you too. I envy that you can go 7 days without washing your hair, my hair gets so limp and oily I'm lucky if I can make it to 3. lol

I bought a video camera last year to try a few video tutorials but the quality wasn't good enough for close up, sadly. So I've still not gotten around to getting something else. Whoops!

  28. What are hot rollers like to use? They don't damage your hair or make it frizzy like curling irons do, do they? I really love the idea of them but I try to avoid doing anything to my hair that involves applying heat!

Also, I loved hearing what your voice sounds like, you should do more video posts :D

    1. They don't make your hair frizzy if you use a proper thermal spray, it protects your hair from the heat and damage. I don't like to do anything that damages my hair, since it's already so damaged, but if you only do it every once in a while properly it's fine. Haha, thanks, I hated hearing myself, but I will do more talking videos for sure!

  30. I'm so glad I found your blog!
You're so beautiful! And your tutorial is great. My hair is really long, like about the waist, and I'm very torn between cutting it and start using these hairstyles or leaving it the way it is.
I've always wanted long hair, and I haven't cut it in more than a year. This video def makes me want to cut it :( Wah. Isn't there a way to make these hairstyles (my favorites are the 40s looks) on a long hair?

    1. Thank you so much, you're very sweet! I think with hair that length you could do elaborate 40's up dos but styles like these would not hold as your hair is so long. You could perhaps pin it under into a faux bob/mid length style if you wished. You certainly do not have to have short hair though to achieve vintage styles. In the past my hair has been much longer and I've enjoyed styling it that way. If you don't want to chop it but still want long locks just do a modified middy that is much longer. Perhaps middle of your back or a wee shorter? That would work very well for styling.

    2. Also, just wanted to add, you might not have as much luck with this particular style but try sponge rollers or pin curls and you could probably get a nice 40's look going :)

  31. Was just wondering if you could tell me what setting lotion you use! I can't really read the label...I'm cutting my hair this month and this is the first style I want to try. I'm extremely nervous to cut all my hair off but I can't achieve any of the styles I want to do with it.
Thanks for such a wonderful tutorial and you have gorgeous hair and style <33

    1. My husband filmed this for me and I believe used a version of final cut to edit it. He's a professional videographer/editor so that's why it looks so nice. Laura B.? I'm not sure I know exactly what line that is. It's a Trashy Diva dress though.

  36. I do my hair in a similar way, but it takes much longer and sometimes I have to use lots of bobby pins to hold the rolls of hair.

I love the music, too. I recognize the second song you played, but what was the name of the first song playing in the video?

    Thanks! :)
