When I found this dress I freaked out, and when I tried it on and it actually fit I freaked out even more. I dream of these rayon 40's dresses. I want to have a million, but sadly most of them are priced far too high for me. So I'm still in stitches I have this one.
I have been working at hand washing most of my vintage items. I had been taking a lot of things to the dry cleaners, and it makes me really nervous, so I figured I'd dive into more hands on cleaning. Well...this dress shrunk. And it actually shrunk a lot. Thankfully most of the shrinking was length and now that I've actually worn it I kinda prefer it this length.
Last night we celebrated my little sister Sarah's birthday. She's 20! I still can't believe it. It was so amazingly fun...unlike today. As I type this post I'm waiting to hear back from the mechanic about my car. It broke down on the side of the road, so ya know, not a whole lot of fun. Cross your fingers for me that it'll be up and running and won't cost me an arm and a leg. Geesh, cars.

Dress is amazing! Love the pattern and style. And you look stunning as always: beautiful hairstyle.
ReplyDeleteThe dress is nice, but that headscarf on you really looks like a million dollars! Love it!
ReplyDeleteI hope a lil steam fixes the shrinkage action (I've never had it not?) but regardless, the length looks great anyways! That print is simply divine, the bright red accents really seal the deal! God, you're so gorgeous, it's craziness.

That dress is fabulous! I can see why you were excited. Lovely fabric pattern, lovely style. And the length is perfect, so it seems that the shrinkage was a blessing in disguise.
ReplyDeleteYes! I think it really did end up being the best thing in the end.
DeleteVery nice pics, I love how you've paired accessories, and hairstyle too.

Oh no! The same thing happened to me when I washed my first vintage dress. Another gorgeous 40's rayon in olive green with cream polka dots (that actually fit me)! I was so sad when it shrunk but luckily, it was only about an inch or so in length. So, now I Dryel most of my rayons. I'm really tall so I can't afford to lose any length. Anyway, I love everything about this outfit, especially those red pumps! I don't know about you, but I have such a hard time finding red accessories. I did luck out today with two red belts. Yippee!! :P
ReplyDeleteOh, that's such a great idea. I'll have to try that from now on :) Thank you! Yes, it always takes me a good amount of searching to find red accessories that I love. Glad you found some lovely red belts! That's still on my list of things to find.
DeleteWhat a gorgeous dress - no wonder you freaked out!!
ReplyDeleteLove the red heels and faux bangs combo - very nice!

Love the mustard scarf teamed with the dress. I am always so afraid when washing my vintage items as they're so precious especially when they fit you & are affordable! Eeep! It still looks wonderful on you & the length is perfect. Hope you are well Loadsa Love VV xxx
ReplyDeleteAah you look perfect, the dress is divine, I concur I want a million of these dresses so pretty and versatile. Don't fret my car cost me an arm and a leg to fix this weekend! xxx
ReplyDeleteI'm completely blown away with this outfit!
ReplyDeleteYou are awesome, woman!!!
Fingers and toes thoroughly crossed - that's rough for sure. We've had a lot (well into the four figures) of car repairs this year, too. Hopefully all is well after the last big bill for some transmission work a few weeks (which we'd been saving up to get done), and likewise hopefully your car will soon be fit as a fiddle once more.
ReplyDeleteWhat splendidly lovely rayon dress. The length looks marvelous on you, as does the whole thing point blank.
Happiest birthday wishes to your sweet sister!
♥ Jessica
You look amazing in that dress, it's really perfect. Good luck with your car!
ReplyDeleteI found an awesome "X does 40s" dress similar to yours last year and love it to pieces. As you said, most of these are soo expensive, especially when they're an authentic 40s piece, so it will be a while before I can get one. You look lovely as always!
ReplyDeleteOMG, DYING here looking at you...DYING!! So divine! xx
ReplyDeleteSweet dress! I love when a vintage dress fits perfect and looks great on-yeah!!!! xox
ReplyDeleteWow, how did you do your hair? So feminine.
ReplyDeleteI used a rat for the faux bang and then just pinned the rest up and tied a bow. Sooo simple. I think I may do a tutorial on it soon!
DeleteI love how your shoes, the flowers on your dress and your lipstick color go together. A very neat and pretty look! :-)
ReplyDeleteOmg! You're such a beauty! :)
ReplyDeleteLove love love that dress! <3
I LOVE this look on you! The dress looks super cute (and a great length!!!) and that yellow bow in your hair is PERFECT!!!!!!!!! You are such a doll!
ReplyDeleteLuh-HUVE this outfit, esp the dress and the HAIR. Have you done a tutorial on pinned bangs like that? Want 'em, need 'em!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I have not done one yet, but I'm starting to get one planned out! So hopefully in the next week or two one will be up :)
DeleteYou look beautiful here, I love your hair!
ReplyDeleteMaria xxx
Oh no, I hope your car is fixed soon! That is not fun at all..
ReplyDeleteAlso, I would LOVE to know how you did your hair like this! I have been trying a ton of techniques to get my hair like this, and to no avail. I tried to use a long, foam perm rod even that is bendable but it kept showing through and looking horrible. Anyway, you look perfect and it suits the style of your dress so well. I'm always terrified of washing and shrinking items as well- glad this one still fit you, it is stunning!
Your makeup is always flawless! Love it!
ReplyDeleteAnd you look gorgeous!

I saw your pictures from the birthday party on IG and thought all three of you looked so very, very lovely.
ReplyDeleteWhat a treasure of a dress and stunning outfit/look from head to toe.
what to say about this dress: it shrunk perfectly! it fits you like a glove and the lenght looks great.... your hair is a total dream. i think, this must be my new fav outfit of yours!!!
ReplyDeleteJust the most beautiful dress on the most beautiful lady....perfect with the yellow head scarf.
ReplyDeleteHope the car is all good sweet...grrr cars and bills. I would rather buy vintage dresses any day.
love V
Yeah, the cleaners are a definite gamble...after they ruined one of my vintage dresses, I'm stickin' to hand wash. Rayon can be very tricky though...I've shrunk rayon too and it's such a bummer. For that, ya just gotta dry clean. No worries, we'll find more divine things at the estate sales!
ReplyDeleteWOWee, just picture perfect. Your hair!!!! Amazing!
ReplyDeleteThe dress suits you perfectly, love the hairstyle :)
ReplyDeleteStunning!
ReplyDeleteYou are a picture in that dress. So gorgeous. I would have freaked out too! What a find! p.s. please send me some of that impeccable hair styling capability ;)
ReplyDeleteI love the hair and scarf! If you want the dress back to it's original size it's usually fixable by ironing it with steam. I accidentally shrunk one of my grandmother's 40s dresses a while back but after ironing it was back to normal again!
ReplyDeleteThank you, love! Yes, I've since used my steamer to get some of the length back. Thanks so much for the tip :)
DeleteI love this dress, it looks like it was made for you xx

I would freak out too if I found a rayon 40's dress I could afford. It looks great!

New follower here... Jumping on the bandwagon to say "Ugh, you are perfection"... Love your blog, love your style! Wish you would do a tutorial on that bumper bang you have done there. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much love! I am actually planning a tutorial for the bang and hopefully it will be done in the next week or two,so stay tuned!
Deleteoh i'm a big sucker for 40s rayon dresses as well! i can't seem to find any under 50$ on ebay (if i'm VERY lucky and with various flaws), but they're a definite must!
ReplyDeletei always prefer hand washing vs dry cleaning whenever possible (cost, risk, environment) and i had my share of rayon shrinkage, silk color bleed, the works. but i still try it, not on very valuable pieces though.
your hair looks amazing btw!!
