Life Lately

Well, I did really well the month of January on my blog schedule and I had the first week of February all mapped out and then I just became...uninspired. We all, no matter our style leanings, go through periods of feeling like nothing inspires us (at least it seems most of us do). Something had to be done, and I had an idea of what would kick my booty back into the world of inspiration. A hair cut. I've had many, many, many hair styles in my young adult life and this one was worth going back for.

It was freeing for me to cut off all my hair. Doing different things with my hair has never bothered me, after all, it's just hair, it grows back, but as I have gotten older I feel myself using it more as a security blanket. Oh no, I don't want to cut it too short, that's kinda scary. Well, it's never been scary to me before, why should it be scary now? I got kinda complacent and felt it had to be a certain length (I have no idea why), and then it just clicked a few weeks back, I needed to eliminate the security blanket. I wanted to feel free, like I did in college when I first got this cut. I did it, and I feel fantastic. I wasn't sure how everyone would respond via this blog, and even in real life, but I realized my style has nothing to do with what other people think I should look like, so this decision shouldn't either.

Besides the new 'do I've been working a lot. Particularly on my Kindergarten Opera (it's gonna be adorable). Is it terrible I'm already longing for summer break? Well, either way I cannot wait for summer. I'm so excited for warm weather and a bit of a reprise from teaching duties.

For Valentine's Day Ty and I went swing dancing and off to the Holland House for dinner and drinks. The day after is Ty's birthday and we had a grand time celebrating him turning 25. Time has started going by so quickly. I can't believe I'll be turning 25 this year too.

How are you all faring through the winter, or perhaps summer, depending on where you live?

xo,
 Em

  2. We all need some change in our lives from time to time. I think this hairdo suits you so it was a good move! *^o^*
I'd like to ask you about your lipstick, what brand/number is it? It's perfectly dark red and matte, at least in the photos, I've been looking for something like that for a while but with no luck.

  4. I love this cut on you! It's so dreamy and lovely! You have me fantasizing about cutting my own hair off. One of the most empowering things I've done upon coming to college was cutting off all my hair the day after high school graduation. It's almost three years later and it's just now finally growing back out to high school length. Sometimes it's good to remind ourselves to remove the everyday security blankets and just go for it!

  5. I can definitely relate to hair being a security blanket, I'm probably guilty of that.
But you look absolutely amazing, I LOVE the short hair.

  7. I've probably said this a million times to you already but I just adore your hair! I've always preferred short hair on myself and really admire other ladies who take that plunge since it is very easy to use hair as a security blanket as you said. I'm also feeling uninspired lately (I'm blaming it on the weather) and I think a bold hair color change might be in order for me soon. Well kudos again on the adorable hair cut! I think it's extremely becoming :)

  10. I wore my hair like that for ages and now that it's below shoulder length I've felt myself periodically getting the urge to chop it all off again. So cute!

  11. You look wonderful, as always!
    Love the hair!
I just cut mine (not quite as short as yours) last December, but regretted it ever since. I've had short hair before, but this time it's just not wanting to "behave" :p!
However, you don't seem to be having that issue!
And a happy (belated) birthday to Ty!!!!
I must say, in this picture he kinda looks like my husband!
Which only means you clearly have wonderful taste ;-)!
    Big hugg!

  12. You pull off short hair so well, in an adorable, coy sort of way! I think it's awesome that you eliminated your security blanket so decisively, truly it's the only way for us to continue growth as humans (or to be free, as you put it). Bravo! :)

  13. It looks fantastic on you! I definitely think hair can be a crutch for women (and I'm assuming perhaps some men too). Myself included. While I'm not entirely convinced my hair chop suits me, it's very freeing. The concept that I can shower, blow dry and straighten my hair and actually walk out of the house feels revolutionary compared to before when I had to plan around when I'd wash and set it. lol So kudos to you for your great cute new cut! Can't wait to see you rock it. (I don't want to call it a 'bold' cut, btw, because to me that somehow implies there's something inherently "wrong" about women cutting their hair, and having had short hair for a good part of my life, I definitely don't subscribe that thinking. ;-)

  16. That cut really suits you! It looks so fresh and lively. :) I do wish it was summer already, because this winter has been really lame. No snow, only slush and no sun. :--( But at least it's not freezing! :D

  18. Your no 'do is really beautiful! You have such a stunning face, both in terms of shape and it's natural beauty that you could wear any length hair, my dear, but here we get to see more of your gorgeous features all the more and that alone makes a shorter length like this an awesome idea, if you ask me.

*PS* Early happy birthday wishes to your honey!
