I've been meaning to do a post including some photos from our apartment, and now I've finally gotten up the gumption! We live in an apartment building that was built in the 30's, and I completely adore it. It has the original bathroom tiles, hard wood floors, and of course radiators. Eventually we want to live in a house but this is completely our dream apartment.
Those are just some of my favorite bits from around the apartment. A local blogger has asked to come and take some photos (which I'm sure will be far better than the ones I took) and when that happens I'll give you a link. Hope you didn't mind the large amount of photos.
What are some favorite pieces of furniture or nick nacks that you have?
xo,
Em
I just bought that Art Deco book for my aunt a few weekends ago. Lovely post. What a great space!

That vanity is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteLove it! It's my dream apartment too!
ReplyDeleteLove all the art deco pieces and you have such a great eye for detail.
Can't wait until I have a place I can decorate and make my own :)
Your apartment is simply incredible, I am so impressed with the amount of art deco furniture you've got! And it goes very nicely with your 50s furniture, the two decades look wonderful side by side! Every bit and bob you've got is so perfect, I love how uncluttered and organized everything is too.
ReplyDeleteI live in a share house with my partner, so for now we've just got one small room to ourselves. I look forward to having our own space in the future and filling it with nice furniture and knick knacks like you have :)
Thank you so much! It is so exciting to look forward to decorating your own space. I remember dreaming about it just a year ago after graduating college, it's so fun to play with!
DeleteYour apartment looks and sounds absolutely wonderful!
ReplyDeleteLove the Art Deco look!
It must be a joy to live in!
I adore older buildings.
I was spoiled growing up in an pre-1900's house. High ceilings, big rooms.
Now I live in a simple, small house, built in 1958.
I would like to live in an older house again (oh, how I miss those high ceilings!), but I also love this little house! It was built after the Second World War, to provide people with cheap housing after a lot of towns/homes were destroyed during the war. (A lot of houses were built during that time, before that people just lived with family or even strangers. Sometimes even for years! I can't even imagine it!)
I always think of the joy and excitement the first residents of this home must have felt when they first stepped foot inside!!!
It makes me feel really good about my little, young, small home.
Anyway, I'm getting way off topic here, sorry!
I love all my furniture and knick knacks.. Maybe a bit too much sometimes :p! I have to be really careful what I bring into my home, because I have no trouble bringing new stuff in, but I'm terrible at getting rid of things! I try not to be/become a hoarder, lol!
Most of my things have sentimental value, like the watch my grandmother gave to my grandfather. Or my night stand that I have had literally all my life (I painted it a few times, and it had has a few different legs, and knobs, but it's still the same old night stand)!
Most of my furniture is old. Handed down to me, bought at thrift stores, or found on the side of the road! Sure, yes, I also have some modern pieces, and I like those too! But I think most of my pieces have a 1950's/60's feel to it, with a touch of Art Deco, or at least I'd like to think so!
I love the pictures! Not too many at all!
Thank you sharing them! They are wonderful!

P.S. So sorry about the long comment!
Thank you, Art Deco is one of my favorite styles! Oh yes, I grew up in much older buildings as well, so I'm really attached to them. I think park of the joy (like you said) is knowing there was such a history in the older places. I love to imagine who lived here before us. Also, someone knew of a couple who spent their first years married here and moved in the year it was built, 1939 so I think that's so amazing to think of what their life must have been here!
DeleteOh how wonderful, I love things handed down or that have real sentimental value. Don't apologize, I adore long comments!
Ooh, that is so sweet, that you know of a couple who spent their first married years there! Makes it even more special!
DeleteHappy to hear you didn't mind the long comment! I was just typing away, too enthusiasticly I guess :p!
Love your home! Mine was built in 1927 so I know what you mean about having original stuff around-so neat isn't it? I love having wooden floors and its so much easier to tend too with three munchkins running around! hehe I love your wedding photos too-you guys are too cute!!!
ReplyDeleteSince my house now has various pen/marker/crayon scribbles on the walls I would say thats my least favorite bit as much as I love them. I regret not having our walls painted with semi gloss-when we do repaint it going to be just that dangit! I think when we fix up the house when the baby is a little older then I will have a favorite piece of furniture etc. I look fwd to that but no rush. I like keeping them little for as long as I can. I say when you guys do have kiddies one day-remove everything that can be damaged. Our furniture is from Ikea and target and so they have messed them up and its fine but if it was expensive I probably would have shed a tear LOL xox
Oh how wonderful! Yes, I love all the original tid bits of this apartment. Yes, wooden floors are so much easier with up keep, and I bet especially with little ones running about. Ohhh that is such good advice! Thankfully not many of my vintage things cost too much, but I would hate to have them spoiled, maybe I'll have to have a locked guest room when I have kiddos :)
DeleteMy husband and I are living in our dream apartment as well, built in 1937. You're place looks lovely! So many fun items. Fantastic lamp and armoire!
ReplyDeleteIt's so cute! I love older houses too, but I prefer more of the Victorian style, however Deco is my second favorite. I am in love with that lamp and your vanity!

It's dreamy!! What amazing furniture! Our apartment was built in the 70s and definitely does not have the same charm haha!
ReplyDeleteSuch a darling place!! I especially love the tile and your bedroom bits!

I love your blue arm chairs! What a great vintage home.
ReplyDeletebeautiful! i love how your home is vintage without being cluttered and thrift store looking (like mine! ha!)
ReplyDeleteThanks, but I think the only reason it isn't yet is because Ty and I have only been married for a year...I have a feeling in the years to come it will be become waaaay more cluttered :)
DeleteSwooning over your gorgeous dressing table!
ReplyDeleteOh, these are lovely! I especially love your vanity-what an essential piece for any vintage girl. I hope to have one in my home someday!
ReplyDeleteThat dressing table is so stunning ! You have a beautiful home :)
ReplyDeleteYour apartment looks lovely!
ReplyDeleteOh, that tile floor brings back memories! My grandmother's house had the same ones!
ReplyDeleteI found an old waterfall dresser outside my appartment put out for garbage in NJ and managed to drag it in and up in an 1920's elevator! Sadly now it's sitting in storage in NJ at the moment :-(
Oh my goodness! What an amazing thing to find something like that just sitting out for the garbage, it's good you were there to save it. Aww, well hopefully one day you'll be able to get it back.
Deleteoooo i love your dressing table, have too many nick nacks around my house!!
ReplyDeleteIt looks incredible, I love the little knick knacks! How do you manage to keep it looking so tidy yet whimsical? Our place either borders on chaos or clinical.
ReplyDeleteI think as time rolls on it will not remain so tidy haha. As Ty and I have more time to accumulate things I think it will become more crazy. Right now it's so tidy because we don't have loads of things.
DeleteSuch a lovely apartment, I love those photos of you and your husband!

I love seeing the inside shots of your home! All of your furniture and accessories definitely go with your place. I love your dressing table!!
ReplyDeleteWhen we were house shopping early last year, for some reason I had it in my head that I really wanted a bungalow, which around here means teens-30s houses. So I thought we'd end up slowing changing all our furniture to suit it. But we ended up buying a 50s ranch, so our furniture was perfect as is. I guess sometimes it just all works out. lol
What a lovely home you have!!!x
ReplyDeleteI love it all. Your waterfall furniture is gorgeous, the round table has me SO jealous, and I admire your restraint. So many of us vintage lovers buy all the things, just because they're OLD things, with little or no regard to how all the things will come together in their home. And then none of those special items stands out. It just looks like they live in the basement of Goodwill! But you've edited wonderfully.
ReplyDeleteAlso, the pith helmet cracks me up in a really good way. Like, it's just there for those days when Tyler has to go fight tigers in the jungle, right? It's so fun! :)
Thank you! Right now I've been forced to use restraint as we have to decorate slowly as we can afford to...I have a feeling I might go more crazy as time goes on.
DeleteHaha, thanks! I really love it there, I think it adds an air of masculine adventure to the room :)
Your home, just like you, dear Emma, radiate timeless beauty, elegance and charm. It's classic, soulful and immensely lovely to look at. Thank you very much for giving us a tour of some of the most beloved corners of your wonderful vintage abode.

ReplyDeleteI adore your apartment, the floors are perfect. I'm living at home with my parents at the moment trying to save for my own house. I'd love a nice Victorian terrace house xx
